Live Broadcasts

Broadcasting AntennaWhy does GLOSS FM broadcast for only a few weeks a year?

The regulations governing the licencing of Radio Stations mean that we are currently only eligible to apply for a 'Restricted Service Licence' (RSL) from Ofcom, the regulatory authority for all television and radio broadcasting.

This Licence entitles us to broadcast for up to 28 consecutive days.

We are able to apply for up to two of these Licences a year as long as there is a four month gap between the two broadcast periods.

However exciting news announced in April 2010 is that Ofcom is inviting Expressions of Interest to run a new tier of permanent Community Radio Stations.  Needless to say GLOSS FM will be expressing our interest.
